Social Networking
Many people go on social networking sites I for one do not go on these sites but many people around the world do.
 Pros
Here are the advantages that could be more then enough to make you join in. There is no fee to get into social networking sites which is good if your low on money and just want to hop in and talk to your friends just like that. Social networking is also were if you have a unique talent and post links to video were you can show off your talent and mabye someone will pick you up for that talent. The other good thing is friends. You have friends that have friends that have friends and so on. This is a great way to find new friends and meet new people and mabye that special someone. This is also a great way to communicate with your friends and family mabye asking when to hang out or whens family dinner? Theres also bad things
Cons
Theres so much stuff people can know about and creep on you. Like your name, birthday, job, favorite place to hang out, age, gender and other types of information. So you have to be careful. While many sites try to keep any of these cases of harassment to small chance of happening like, cyber-stalking, online scams, and identity theft you still may never know.  Some people when there on to much they get really addicted to the certain site like facebook or twitter. They will get on as much as they can to update on every single thing. Sometimes people forget to do homework and so on. Some people you meet on facebook for example might be the best of friends but you dont know him. He sais hes a 14 year old boy named timmy and the he pops the question hey we should meet sometime. you then might say "no thanks I dont know you that well." or you can say "sure lets meet up at blah blah." you meet him and all you see is a 40 year old who grabs you and well your never seen again so be careful.

But if you be safe and double check what your posting then you should glide through with no problems.

  2. Hi Justin,

Your post is detailed and it explains both sides of the argument quite nicely. Nice work :) I have just a few things I want to comment on…

I agree with you in that social networking allows for a connection between friends. I, myself, use a number of social networks quite often (sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and this allows me to keep in touch with my friends and family from across the world. And as you mentioned, it doesn’t cost me a penny! It is a really convenient method of staying in touch with loved ones as well as getting to know other people.

As for your cons, I would hope that you wouldn’t accept a request from somebody you didn’t know. I would also hope you would avoid putting personal information such as address, phone number, email address, etc. public. Stalkers tend to target people who forget to change their information to private – they become easy targets.

Your comment, “They will get on as much as they can to update on every single thing” confuses me a bit. Isn’t the point of Facebook and Twitter, especially Twitter, to update about yourself? Isn’t that a point of social networking? To me, social networking is getting to know people better (as well as the aforementioned staying in touch reason), and wouldn’t you know someone better if you knew what was going on in his/her life? I, for one, tweet (update status for Twitter for anyone who doesn’t know) quite often, as do my friends, and we feel that the point of Twitter is to tweet. Isn’t that what Twitter is about? Because of updates on social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, I feel like I know the people around me better. I get to understand them. I get to befriend them. To me, what you’re suggesting goes against the purpose of social networking.

You bring up a good point: some people may be deceiving you without your knowledge. For example, you thought (probably because of my profile picture) that I was a girl, but in fact, I’m a guy. Some people create fake identities and try to deceive people into giving important information, such as address, credit card number, etc. It’s important to keep personal information private as well as identifying who you really know. You wouldn’t want some 40-year old creeper to know where you live and knock on your door the very next day. (I would probably scream like a little girl)

Overall, you did a good job. Keep up the nice work!

  3. Good post Justin.

To expand on your pro's and con's try to give an alternative on how to actually be safe, such as changing your privacy settings, or even minimizing the information you put on your account. Great work on stating both sides of the argument and then deciding which side you are ultimately a part of! Keep up the good work!
