Are sports drinks good for teens? Many people think that they are, but many think they are not. Today I am going to list reasons why I think they are good and bad for teens.
Pros: When you are playing an intense sport or doing a intense workout what would you rather reach for, a sports drink or water, I would think that people would rather reach for the sports drink. The reason people drink sports drinks is because they taste better, are refreshing, and give you more energy. Sports drinks give you more energy because of the ingredients that the companies but into them such as carbohydrates or protein.
Cons: There are definitely cons to drinking sports drinks. Sports drinks can be dangerous if you're just drinking it for the taste, these drinks are made to give you energy when working out or playing sports not when you're just thirsty that's what water is for. If you are drinking these drinks when you're not working out or playing sports drinking these drinks can lead to diabetes or other diseases because they are very high in sugar and sodium.
Personally I think that sports drinks are good for teens when used right, but can be very bad when used wrong.

For this weeks CE Topic I will be picking are sports drinks good for teens? For this topic i think there are lots of pros and cons.
Pros: When your playing sports or doing a intense workout I would rather reach for a sports drink, instead of water. Because sports drink tastes delicous, are very refreshing, and give you more energy. Sports drink are very good when working out or playing sports because the ingredients that the companies who make the drinks are do give you more energy and be refreshing when you work hard.
Cons: Sports drinks usually cost 2-3 dollars which is really expensive. If you aren't working out or playing sports, sports drinks can be very bad because they have lots of sugar and are high in sodium which is bad when not working out. So instead of going to buy a sports drink when not working out or playing sports, is not only bad for your wallet but also bad for you.
Personally I think sports drinks are both good and bad.
Good job Deacon, maybe next time use different language. But a very good job
ReplyDeleteHi Deacon,
ReplyDeleteQuite an interesting approach you have for this topic.
You mentioned that a pro for the consumption of sport drinks is the taste of the beverage. But is the point of a workout drinking tasty beverages afterwards? Isn't the point of working out staying healthy? And as you mentioned in the latter paragraph, sports drinks are really unhealthy. They contain a lot of sugar and thus, get the good taste that you've mentioned. But the taste of a beverage isn't everything, especially for sports drinks. The purpose of sports drinks is to replenish the energy for the athlete. But is feeding him/her with sugar for them to obtain more energy beneficial to the athlete? I don't think so. Being able to work out for a longer period of time sounds great, but having to consume unhealthy and harmful beverages just isn't worth it. Sports drinks may taste good after a workout, but so does a nice, cool glass of water.
You also mentioned that a con for sports drinks is the amount of money it takes to purchase one. I agree with you that a bottle of Gatorade is probably more expensive than it should be. But in my opinion, this is a positive, and not a negative. I think that if the price of sports drinks continues to be high, then the amount of consumers will decrease. If that happens, then we can eliminate sports drinks from being sold. As unhealthy and unbeneficial beverages, sports drinks should not be sold. The commercials are a bad influence for children, as they become mesmerized and they believe that sports drinks are actually beneficial. Also, if sports drink companies stop making drinks, then that will significantly decrease the amount of plastic bottles being used.
Overall, you did a good job in breaking down the pros and cons, but may I suggest that next time that you choose a side? Nice work :)
Good job Deacon! Next time maybe use different language and maybe make your post a bit longer.
ReplyDeleteBut overall, fantastic job Deacon!
